Proficiency in Developing Agentic AI for Manufacturing

Gabriel Ott de Medeiros

The Proficiency in Developing Agentic AI for Manufacturing micro-credential is awarded to participants who have successfully completed a hands-on training program in creating AI agents that autonomously perform complex tasks. The program comprises both conceptual learning and practical implementation, delivered through guided instruction and independent project work.

Participants learn to build AI agents using no-code platforms and programmatic approaches, connecting large language models with external tools to solve real-world manufacturing challenges. The curriculum progresses from foundational concepts to a complete implementation project focused on manufacturing applications. Learners gain immediately applicable skills in one of technology's fastest-growing domains through this micro-credential.

  • Demonstrate functioning agent configurations in no-code environments, and successfully connect to and utilize LLM APIs Assessment rubric: Functionality (40%), Implementation quality (30%), Problem-solving approach (30%).

Prerequisites:

  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts

  • Familiar with business applications of AI Comfort using computer software and navigating web applications

  • Basic understanding of API concepts (no coding experience required)

Assessment:

To earn this micro-credential, learners engage in a project-based assessment demonstrating the ability to:

  • Distinguish between traditional AI systems and agentic AI architectures.

  • Create and configure AI agents using no-code platforms.

  • Implement tool integration with large language models.

  • Connect to AI APIs for custom applications.

  • Design a complete agentic system for a manufacturing use cases.

  • Evaluate appropriate agents for specific business problems.

Earners must achieve a minimum of 70% overall score.

About TrAC
The Translational AI Center will break down disciplinary silos to bring together core Iowa State artificial intelligence researchers and subject matter experts interested in applying new technologies to their work. The center will initially focus on conducting core artificial intelligence research, as well as pursuing five application areas of artificial intelligence:

  • Materials design and manufacturing

  • Biology, healthcare, and quality of life

  • Autonomy, intelligent transportation, and smart infrastructure

  • Food, energy, and water

  • Ethics, fairness, and adoption.

In addition to serving as a scientific hub for translational artificial intelligence, the center will organize research seminars, host workshops, training, and onboarding programs, offer seed funding for research projects, and serve as an intermediary between private industry partners seeking research services and appropriate university faculty.
