GLA | Professional Development

The Professional Development badge recognizes individuals who have successfully completed requirements focused on personal and professional growth and encourages self-assessment, goal setting, and career planning, oftentimes through the development of technology proficiency. This badge is one of five in an early-talent undergraduate leadership development program offered by the Ivy College of Business Undergraduate Career Services office. This badge is aligned to the 8 NACE Career Readiness Competencies of: • Career & Self-Development • Critical Thinking • Technology

The Professional Development badge provides an opportunity to develop professional skills to secure a job and get started off on the right foot after graduation.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Build a professional network of contacts within their desired industry, leading to potential job opportunities and career advancement.

  • Gain a deeper understanding of their career goals, strengths, and weaknesses, enabling them to make informed career decisions.

  • Develop the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully transition from academia to the professional world.

Assignment and Assessment:

  • Students must participate in a minimum of three activities from the recommended list provided and approved by the Ivy College of Business Undergraduate Career Services office.

  • Submit a 1-pg comprehensive reflection for each activity to be evaluated by business career services professional and earning a passing score.

Duration and Modality:
The learner completes 5 online modules, each consisting of 2-3 activities. This is can be completed within 1 academic year with the option to roll over to the following academic year if not completed during specified timeline.

The Gerdin Leaders Academy (GLA) is a program aimed at increasing the involvement of early program, transfer and/or international students in the Ivy College of Business led and managed through the Ivy College of Business Career Services office.

The GLA program is structured around five key pillars: Diversity & Global Perspective, Ethics, Leadership, Service to Community, and Professional Development. These pillars are closely aligned with the 8 NACE Career Readiness Competency Standards: Career & Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, and Technology.
